Etxera Trail

Etxera Trail is a mountain event held in Gernika-Lumo that combines sport with a call for the return home of Basque political prisoners, exiles and deportees. The organisers propose broad participation and set out routes of varying difficulty to encourage the involvement of the local population. The VII edition took place on 25 January 2026, with start and finish in the Plaza del Pasealeku in Gernika. The programme included a 16 km race with 650 m of elevation gain, a long walk on the same route and a short walk of 6 km with 350 m of elevation gain. The day brought together 1,550 participants, according to the organisers.
