Euskal Herria Mendi Erronka

The Euskal Herria Mendi Erronka (EHME) celebrates its 13th edition with start and finish in Leitza’s main square. Its 67-kilometre ultra runs through the mountainous surroundings of Mendialdea-Aralar, via Araitz-Betelu, Larraun-Lekunberri and Leitzaldea, with the Irumugarrieta, at 1,431 metres, as the highest point and Arribe, at 222 metres, as the lowest. As well as the sporting aspect, the event promotes Basque mountaineering, the Basque language and the protection of the environment. The start is at 8:00 in the morning and the maximum time is 13 hours, with cut-offs in Gaintza and Lekunberri. The route has 9 aid stations, both liquids and full, and 6 passage controls. Participation is limited to 700 runners; bibs are collected in Leitza’s main square and, at the end, there is paella for participants.
