The Trail Coto Musel is a mountain race held at the end of October in Pola de Laviana, in the Nalón basin, and forms part of the Copa de Asturias de Carreras por Montaña. It takes its name from the former Coto Musel mine, through whose surroundings the route runs. The competitive distance is 13 kilometres with close to 870 metres of elevation gain, and it is very demanding: in the first 5 kilometres, almost all of the ascent is concentrated there. The programme also includes a 10-kilometre walking event with no competitive character and children’s races. It is a test with a strong mining identity and local atmosphere, integrated into the regional circuit, which combines a short, very vertical course with the industrial memory of the valley.
