La Barbudo Sky Race is the great mountain race of the Region of Murcia and takes place in the Sierra del Carche Regional Natural Park, in Jumilla. It starts from the Salinas de la Rosa and climbs up to the Madama peak, the highest point of the range at 1,371 metres, linking, on its longest distance, thirty-four kilometres and 2,400 metres of elevation gain along limestone ridges, scree slopes and goat tracks: a pure skyrunning profile, unusual in the south-east of the peninsula. It is organised by Hinneni Trail Running Jumilla with the support of the Town Council and the Region of Murcia, and its name evokes the bandits who took refuge in the Carche, which is why it calls its participants bandoleros. In 2026 it hosts the final of the Copa de España de Carreras por Montaña en Línea, the biggest event of this sport ever held in the region. Alongside the main distance, a classic route and a promotional route are also contested over the same massif.
