El 4 Lobos y 3000 Buitres is the dean night race of Extremadura and is held in Serradilla, on the doorstep of the Parque Nacional de Monfragüe. The start is at 10:00 pm on a Saturday in late June and the long route accumulates 1,080 metres of elevation gain over 22 kilometres through the quartzite ranges that enclose the Tajo, a dehesa and rocky outcrop territory where some of the largest colonies of griffon vulture in the peninsula nest. Its name plays precisely with that fauna and has become one of the preferred dates in the Extremadura mountain calendar. It counts for the Trofeo de la Diputación de Cáceres and, in addition to the long trail, offers a shorter cross over the same setting, so that the night of racing brings together both mountain runners and popular athletes.
