Vertical Montserrat

Vertical Montserrat is a solidary vertical race in Montserrat, with an individual start and an extreme route along the service stairs next to the funiculars of the Santa Cova and Sant Joan. The event links both points with an intermediate section of 80 metres without stairs and totals 2,180 steps over 1,000 metres of route, with 388 metres of elevation gain. It forms part of the National Circuit of Vertical Races and stands out for its demanding and unique local atmosphere. The event, organised by Bombers de la Generalitat and the Obra Social de Sant Joan de Déu, directs its proceeds to research projects into childhood illnesses and to care programmes for children at risk. In addition to the Open category, it includes formats for bombers, inclusive participation, juniors and Som Un Equip; the latter is aimed at groups that take on a prior charitable challenge. Its connection with Montserrat and its charitable nature make it a highly recognisable event.
