Roller Masters Trail Ciudad de La Unión

The Roller Masters Trail is one of the classic races on the Murcian mountain calendar and runs through the Sierra Minera de La Unión and the Calblanque Regional Natural Park, Monte de las Cenizas and Peña del Águila. The setting is unique in Spain: headframes, chimneys and short sections from the old lead and silver mines alternate with limestone ridges and with the wide-open view over the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean. The terrain is punishing, with short, very steep climbs that build up an enormous elevation gain for the altitude of the range. It is organised by C.M. La Unión Roller Masters and scores for the Mountain Races League of the Mountaineering Federation of the Region of Murcia, which it usually closes. Alongside the long distance, the Mini Roller is contested, a shorter course over the same terrain, and both start from the centre of La Unión, at Joaquín Costa Square, opposite the former public market.
