The Rioja Trail Camero Nuevo is run in Torrecilla en Cameros, in the Iregua valley, and starts at the Peñaclara spring, alongside the old spa of Riba los Baños. The route follows the Roman road that climbs the river, passes the ruins of the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de las Vegas, and takes on a sustained ascent from Las Piñuelas towards Ribavellosa, before topping out at Peña Seto, at a little over 1,000 metres, and returning through the grasslands around the González Lacasa reservoir. This is a short, technical event designed expressly as an entry point to mountain races, and it forms part of the Rioja Trail Series, the Rioja rural tourism circuit. The same course is offered both as a race and as a guided walking event, and the day ends with a guided visit to the spring and a popular meal in the park.
