The Rioja Trail Camero Viejo is held in Laguna de Cameros, in the most sparsely populated comarca of La Rioja, and runs through the Monte Real Natural Reserve and the mountain ranges that separate the Leza and Jubera valleys. Its longest distance exceeds 60 kilometres and 2,800 metres of elevation gain, crossing the municipalities of Laguna de Cameros, Ajamil, Rabanera, San Román de Cameros and Hornillos de Cameros, through beechwoods, pine forests and semi-abandoned villages. It forms part of the Rioja Trail Series, a rural tourism circuit that takes mountain races to the small towns of inland La Rioja, and is held in October, with the beechwood in full autumn colour. The start and finish are located in the Plaza del Teleclub de Laguna, and the programme includes an ultra, a classic, a promotional event, a guided walk along the short route and a children’s race.
